The Hawthorn Class has been learning all about Spring. We made really enjoyed reading The Enormous Turnip story and making lots of spring crafts for our display.Spring has sprung in the Hawthorn class! Today we planted some grass for the baby lambs. First we put soil in a tray and then we sprinkled the grass seed over the soil. Next, we watered the grass seed using a watering can. Finally, we put the tray in the sunshine. We look forward to seeing our grass grow! We were so lucky to hear real live Irish music played by Chestnut Class teacher, Andy, and a guest musician during Seachtain na Gaeilge. We loved it so much we just had to get as close as possible too the music!
Check out our pictures from our great day out to Imaginosity! We had such a fun time playing in the pretend supermarket, the cafe, the construction area, the home corner, the doctor's corner, the pretend theatre and the sensory area. We even had a great time on the bus! If you would like to visit Imaginosity with your family and see it for yourself, the address is Beacon South Quarter, Sandyford, Co. Dublin, DUBLIN 18 and the website is www.imaginosity.ie
We are getting so good at taking turns when we are playing and doing our exercises in the hall. We are getting stronger and faster every day too!
We have been having lots of fun with Junior Infants pretending to be in a restaurant! We are learning the names of different kinds of foods, pretending to order from a waiter and then pretending to eat our delicious meal!
As part of P.E.T.N.S Friendship Month, the Student Council have decided to celebrate friendship and solidarity by selling friendship bracelets. During the month of February, the Student Council will make visits to classrooms to sell the bracelets. The bracelets cost €2 and all money raised will go to Amnesty International to assist their work in fighting for justice and equality in the world.
Now that some of us have been in our class almost 3 months, we have really settled into our routine. Here is a sneak peek inside our classroom into some of our daily activities! Every morning when we first arrive in the classroom, we have some time to do an activity of our choice. This gives us time to settle in, engage with each other and get ready for the day ahead! Next we have circle time where we sit together and sing some rhymes. Everyday we sing a 'Hello' song to learn each other's names, a song to learn the days of the week, a weather song and then some number rhymes or nursery rhymes. Some of the rhymes help us to learn Lámh signs too (see Parent's Corner for more info on Lámh). After that we work on motor skills. Some days we work on gross motor skills, i.e. movement using our big muscles, by doing physical activities in the hall, e.g. running, jumping, balancing on benches, pushing or pulling one another on scooter boards or using a gym ball. Other days we work on fine motor skills (i.e. activities using our hands and fingers) through craft activities, e.g. cutting, tearing paper, pasting, painting, printing, using clay, etc.) Back in the classroom, we listen to a story together. This helps us to learn new words, understand emotions and learn about topics related to the history, geography and science curriculum. Sometimes, we practice our Lámh signs when we are reading stories. Later in the day we each have different schedules to do numeracy and literacy activities either one-to-one with an adult, or at our independent working stations. Sometimes, we also just need to have some quiet time in the tent to chill out by ourselves...or together! We are having lots of fun together in the Hawthorn Class and learning so much! We are so proud of all the progress we have made already this year!
